DESCRIPTION

A post-graduate student will be awarded a Fulbright Museum Fellowship to complete short-term research at the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin. The Center’s extensive collections provide unique insight into the creative process of writers and artists, deepening our understanding and appreciation of literature, photography, film, art, and the performing arts.

Proposed research projects should engage substantively with the Ransom Center’s collections and must demonstrate a commitment to innovation and creativity, and include plans for both scholarly and community engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be an Irish Citizen, or E.U. citizen living in the Republic of Ireland for the past 5+ years
  • Preference will be given to current PhD students (in progress but not awarded)
  • The Award is open to master's candidates
  • Preferred Award period: 3 consecutive months in Sept-Dec 2024 or Jan-May 2025
  • Must possess leadership qualities and potential
  • Must have a clear understanding of what it means to be a Fulbrighter
  • Must not be a dual U.S.-Irish citizen, green card holder, or currently living in the U.S., or already have
    extensive experience of studying or living in the U.S.

FUNDING DETAILS

Monetary grant, plus accident and emergency insurance, cultural and professional programming, and J-1 visa administration.

Prospective fellows should review the Ransom Center’s collections to identify potential collections of interest, and review http://www.hrc.utexas.edu/contact to identify potential advisors and collaborators.

Prospective fellows should contact Danica Obadovic, Fellowship Coordinator at the Ransom Center, at ransomfellowships@utexas.edu with an outline of their project and to request a letter of support. This contact will facilitate introductions to relevant staff members. Applicants must include a letter of support from the Ransom Center in their application.

Generally a request for a letter of support from the Ransom Center must be made by October. After that date, the Center cannot guarantee a response before the application deadline.

Please note that participating in this fellowship is contingent upon developments with the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing protocols at the Ransom Center’s library may affect access to the Reading and Viewing Room and in-person interaction with staff.
