DESCRIPTION

An Irish post-graduate student will be awarded a Fulbright Museum Fellowship to complete short-term research at The Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. The Smithsonian is the largest museum complex in the world and a premier international organization dedicated toward the increase & diffusion of knowledge through collections, facilities, and expertise.

Proposed research projects must demonstrate a commitment to innovation and creativity, and include substantive community engagement, as well as the ability to harness the transformative potential of arts, culture, creativity, scientific inquiry and heritage preservation through research collaborations

ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be an Irish Citizen, or E.U. citizen living in the Republic of Ireland for the past 5+ years
  • Must have a Primary Degree in Arts, History, Culture, Science, or other relevant discipline -
    applications in diverse fields are welcome.
  • This is a Student Award, it is not open to post-doctoral academics
  • Must possess leadership qualities and potential
  • Must have a clear understanding of what it means to be a Fulbrighter
  • Must not be a dual U.S.-Irish citizen, green card holder, or currently living in the U.S., or
    already have extensive experience of studying or living in the U.S.

FUNDING DETAILS

Monetary grant, plus accident and emergency insurance, cultural and professional programming, and J-1 visa administration.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW?

Prospective fellows should review the Smithsonian Opportunities for Research and Study (SORS) guide to identify potential advisors and collaborators. Applicants should consider the merits of working with a unique suite of collections and facilities not only at the Smithsonian's Washington, D.C. National Mall locations but at all Smithsonian locations.

Prospective fellows must make contact with prospective advisors at the Smithsonian and request a letter of recommendation, this letter must be included in their Fulbright application.

Prospective fellows submit an application to Fulbright, and if selected, will submit those application materials to the Smithsonian Online Academic Appointment System (SOLAA).

All successful applicants must comply with the two-year home rule, which means that awardees will not be eligible for U.S. residency or a visa until the two-year home rule in Ireland is complete.
