Bliain na Gaeilge in the USA – A Panel Discussion in the Mansion House

The Fulbright Commission in Ireland will host a bilingual Irish-English event to highlight the popularity of the Irish language in the United States. The event will take place in the Oak Room, Mansion House, Dublin 2, beginning at 7.45pm.

This event will include a Panel Discussion on the prevalence of Irish Language in the U.S.,  the Fulbright Commission’s transatlantic Irish language exchange activities, and the valuable work that Fulbright Alumni are doing to promote the Irish language in the U.S.

Panel Speakers will include:

Mr Reece Smyth, Chargé d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy, who is currently learning Irish

Dr Mairéad Nic Giolla Mhichíl, a Fulbright Alumna and Associate Professor & Senior Research Fellow with the National Institute of Digital Learning in Dublin City University, who recently launched the first online Irish language university degree aimed at learners abroad

Dr Teresa Lynn, a Fulbright Alumna and Research Fellow at The ADAPT Centre, Dublin City University, whose work explores the Irish language community online

Ms Síne Nic an Ailí, a Fulbright Alumna and Director of Cultúr Club Project at Conradh na Gaeilge, who works with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to promote the Irish language abroad

Chair: Professor Regina Uí Chollatáin, Head of the UCD School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore and Head of Irish Studies
