Yildirim Dilek is a University Distinguished Professor with an expertise on structural geology and global tectonics at Miami University. He received his PhD at the University of California. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Bergen (Norway), Tohoku University (Japan), Ecole Normale SupA©rieure (Paris, France), and China University of Geosciences (Beijing, China). He has worked extensively on the structure, geochemistry and tectonics of modern oceanic crust and ophiolites, collisional mountain belts, and continental rift zones around the world. He has published 250 peer-reviewed papers and 26 edited books on related topics. He served as the Vice President of the International Union of Geological Sciences. Currently, he is the Chief-Editor of the Journal of the Geological Society (London, U.K.). As a Fulbright Scholar in Ireland, he will be affiliated with the School of BEES at University College Cork working on the Early Palaeozoic magmatica€“tectonic evolution of the Irish segment of the Caledonian orogenic belt and mentoring Masters and PhD students on field techniques in tectonics.
