Award: Fulbright U.S. Student Award
Institution: Brown University
As a recipient of a Fulbright open research award, Talia Mermin (Brown, ’22) is excited to apprentice with Black Church Print Studios and illustrate Yeats’ ninetieth-century compendium of Irish folktales and fairytales. Her research and artistic practice will look at the iterative qualities inherent in both oral storytelling and printmaking to investigate the idiosyncrasies and whims of a story retold. In consultation with Dr. Angela Griffith, an art historian of printed matter at Trinity College, she will undertake to create prints to accompany tales that have morphed over the ages, cataloging dynamic visual imagination.
