Sorcha Ní Ghallachóir was born and raised in the heart of the Gaeltacht in Gaoth Dobhair, Co. Donegal. She is a native Irish speaker who achieved an Honours Bachelor degree in Early and Modern Irish, from Trinity College in 2008. Her experience as an Irish Language Teaching Assistant for the School Of Linguistics, Speech and Communications Sciences, Trinity College, teaching third level students, sparked an interest in pursuing a career in teaching. Following this development, she returned to college to qualify as an Irish language teacher and graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Trinity College in 2011. Sorcha is currently employed as an Irish Teacher and Drama Director/Producer in St. Michael’s College, Dublin. In addition, she also works part time in Coláiste Ghaoth Dobhair, teaching Irish to students undertaking a Professional Masters in Education. She recently graduated from The Honorable Society of King’s Inns with an Advanced Diploma in Legal Translations. While many were taking a break during their summer holidays, Sorcha continued working. She worked as a Deputy Principal and an Irish teacher for Gael Linn’s Irish colleges. Outside of her work, Sorcha is a keen follower of sports, mainly GAA. She has been an active member of na Gaelic Óga C.L.G (Dublin’s only Irish speaking GAA club) since it was established twelve years ago. She was also a founding member and player with the Ladies’ Football team. However, Sorcha’s interests didn’t stop at football. She also served as a Cultural and Engagement Officer, Fundraising Executive and was part of the managerial team of the senior men’s football team and coached underage teams within the club. She served as a committee member and Publications Officer in the Donegal Association of Dublin. While there, she carried out the Association’s work as an ambassador for the county among the Donegal community in Dublin. As a Fulbright Irish FLTA, Sorcha will teach the Irish language and take classes at Villanova University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
