Mariah Maloney

Mariah who grew up listening to her mother play live chamber music inside a homesteader log cabin is a former Trisha Brown Dance Company member. Mariah is a Fulbright U.S. Scholar residing in County Clare, Ireland where she is conducting fieldwork research with sponsorship at The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick. Originally from Homer, Alaska, Mariah is an Alaskan born and raised, New York dance artist, film maker and choreographer. Her current research explores the intersectionality of Irish Traditional music and live music culture in dialogue with postmodern improvisation practices. Maloney’s research is dedicated to a listening practice and unearthing the possibilities of a new choreographic voice in dialogue and celebration of Irish Traditional music. Mariah Maloney Dance is an organization dedicated to presenting Mariah’s interdisciplinary collaborations. Mariah’s recent award-winning dance for camera collaboration with composer and film maker JoAnne Jojo Maffia, A Visitor’s Intimacy of the Now has presented to over 20 national and international film festivals. As a performer and choreographer, Mariah tours throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America and presents work at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival Inside/Out series.
