Dr Juliette O’Connell is Assistant Professor in Therapeutics and Pharmacy Practice in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Trinity College Dublin. She is a registered pharmacist with particular research interest in pharmacoepidemiology. She was awarded her PhD in 2020 from Trinity College Dublin for her research on medication burden in older adults with intellectual disability and its association with physical function and frailty. As a Fulbright-HRB HealthImpact Award scholar, she will be collaborating with Prof Daniela Moga of the College of Pharmacy and colleagues in the College of Public Health in the University of Kentucky to examine opioid prescribing and stewardship strategies. Juliette plans to apply knowledge from this research to develop and implement interventions to manage problematic opioid use in primary care, modelled on opioid stewardship strategies in Kentucky and adapted for the Irish context.
