He received his BA in Art History and Archaeology from University College Dublin in 2012. His major field of research is art history and its application to museum studies focusing on the socio cultural impact of exhibition making. This is based on the principle that museums are important sites of cultural production, collective memory making, and are crucial for the construction of knowledge, identity and narratives. As a Fulbright-Creative Ireland Museum Fellow, he will conduct research at the Office of International Relationships, Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC. Fernando will examine the role of museums and cultural programs in the construction and dissemination of knowledge. Drawing heavily on expertise within the Smithsonian, Fernando will strengthen his own research about exhibitions as sites of exchange by exploring topics related to cross-cultural research, cultural heritage preservation, cultural diplomacy and cultural patrimony illuminating.
