Dr Seamus Dowling is programme chair and lecturer in cybersecurity at GMIT. He holds a Masters in Computing and a PhD in Engineering from National University of Ireland Galway, both concentrating on capturing and analysing cyberattacks. He has worked in the public and private sectors in IT administration and management roles. Seamus has also presented his work at international conferences and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. His Fulbright Ireland TechImpact scholarship will extend his existing research, using machine learning to improve the efficacy of Internet-of-Things cybersecurity. Seamus is committed to sharing his research, software and datasets and this has led to collaborative opportunities with universities and security organisations worldwide. He will be working at the Data Privacy and Security lab at the University of Texas, Dallas. In his spare time, Seamus is an active GAA coach and referee with Westport Camogie and GAA in Mayo.
