David P. Moecher is the Alumni Endowed Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. His field-based research in North and South America, Australia, and northern Europe contributes to understanding the linkages among those continents over one billion years of Earth history. Moecher is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, the former Department Chair, and recipient of awards for undergraduate advising and alumni development. After receiving his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan and prior to starting his 3 decades-long career at UK, he was a National Research Council Post-Doctoral Fellow at the U.S. Geological Survey and Research Associate at SUNY-Stony Brook. Moecher will be working with the internationally renowned group of geoscientists at Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin to test models for potential ancient linkages among continents using a wide range of instrumentation for determining ages of geologic events.
