Andrew Ó hEachteirn is a PhD student in mathematics and a Clarendon Scholar at the University of Oxford. His research involves the use of mathematical modelling and analysis to investigate the spatiotemporal dynamics of toxic protein spread in Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Dublin, he attended primary and secondary Gaelscoileanna before studying mathematics at Trinity College Dublin, where he was a resident of Teach na Gaeilge. Upon graduation, he spent one year as a researcher at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg and at Heidelberg University before taking a master’s degree in mathematics at Cambridge. Andrew is a passionate teacher and is currently a College Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at Pembroke College, Oxford. As a Fulbright Student Awardee, he will conduct a six-month theoretical research project on the role of cerebrovascular damage in the accumulation and propagation of amyloid proteins, in collaboration with the Living Matter Lab at Stanford University.
