“Last April some friends and I organized a writing retreat on Inishmaan, the middle of the three main Aran Islands in Galway Bay, off the west coast of Ireland. Charlotte, Ellen, and Parker are all PhD candidates I met in the School of English at Trinity College Dublin. Paula, the island nurse, befriended our group on the first night of our stay and ended up serving as both a guide and cultural ambassador during the duration of our trip, teaching us the many beautiful nuances of island life. This photo was taken by a kind islander during a driving tour of the island’s coast.”
