Dublin based performer and composer Ms Natasa Paterson to attend renowned UCLA Film Scoring Program

 

June 2012 – Dublin based composer and performer Natasa Paterson has won the Fulbright – Enterprise Ireland Award in Innovation 2012-13 and will attend the University of California Los Angeles’s renowned Film Scoring program commencing this September 2012.

Currently studying for a PhD in Trinity College Dublin, Ms Paterson’s research interests include the exploration of film and game scoring methods and the potential for augmented reality music composition.

 

 

A record number of 37 Irish Fulbright Awards were officially announced today at an event at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin. The awards are jointly funded by the Irish and US governments under the Ireland-United States (Fulbright) Commission for Educational Exchange and included 3 specific sponsored award categories:  the Enterprise Ireland Award in Innovation, the CRH Award in Business Studies and the Environmental Protection Agency Award.

 

Fulbright scholarships have provided Irish students, scholars and professionals with the opportunity to study, lecture and research at top universities and institutions in the U.S. since 1957.

Speaking about the Fulbright – Enterprise Ireland Award in Innovation, Ms Una Halligan, Chair of the Fulbright Commission said:

“Collaboration through the arts is one of Ireland’s most important and successful means of building firm, long-lasting relationships with the US and we are immensely excited by this year’s Enterprise Ireland Award winner Natasa Paterson. We have no doubt her innovative research interests, combined with her love of the arts and exceptional leadership qualities will ensure she is the ideal candidate for this award.

Commenting on the Fulbright – Enterprise Ireland Award in Innovation John Smith, Head of R&D and Technology Transfer, Enterprise Ireland said:

“Ms. Paterson was selected not only due to her remarkable achievements to date but because of her ability to think creatively while demonstrating real innovation through cutting edge augmented music composition for film, gaming and smartphone applications. The Fulbright – Enterprise Ireland Award provides the perfect platform for Ms Paterson to create strategic collaborations and opportunities between entertainment technology music communities in Ireland and the U.S.”

The Fulbright Awards are presented on an annual basis to Irish students, scholars and professionals to undertake postgraduate study and research at higher education, cultural and related institutions in the United States. Applications are encouraged in all disciplines including the visual and performing arts.
