Peter J. Guarnaccia (Ph. D., Connecticut, 1984) is a Professor in the Department of Human Ecology and an Investigator at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy & Aging Research at Rutgers University. His research interests include cross-cultural patterns of psychiatric disorders, cultural competence in mental health organizations, and processes of cultural and health change among immigrants. He has examined mental health among Latinos in the U.S. and in Puerto Rico for three decades. He served as Associate Editor and then Co-Editor-in-Chief of Culture, Medicine and Psychiatry from 2000-2007. He has recently published Immigration, Diversity and Student Journeys to Higher Education (Peter Lang; Series on Equity in Higher Education Theory, Policy and Praxis). He will spend the spring semester of 2021 in the Anthropology Department at Maynooth University teaching courses on Culture and Anxiety and Immigration, Diversity and Student Journeys to Higher Education.
