Fenella is an active advocate and practitioner of bringing together often-diverse fields of academic and cultural heritage fields. A citizen of New Zealand and the United States, her educational background in materials science, and an MBA, combines with an international perspective and commitment to interdisciplinarity between humanities and science. As chief of the Preservation Research and Testing Division at the Library of Congress, she engages with a range of cultural heritage institutions – libraries, archives, museums, and art galleries – also industry and forensic partners, to advance access for all. Fenella will be investigating impact through innovative research dissemination through promoting coordination between the local university and community to encourage engagement with local communities about the potential loss of cultural heritage in their region and access to these materials. Demonstrating the importance of linking heritage science and humanities research to encourage co-collecting in the community involved what should and can be saved.
