Print

With support from the Department of Arts, Heritage & Gaeltacht Affairs and National Lottery, awards are being offered to enable US citizens, currently studying the Irish language in the United States, to participate in Irish language courses in Ireland’s Irish speaking regions (Gaeltacht) during the summer.

Successful candidates will receive a monetary award (maximum value €5,000) to cover travel, tuition, accommodation and meal costs to participate in the course. Please note: This is not a Fulbright Award but an Award from The Ireland - United States Commission for Educational Exchange.

Who can apply?

US citizens or naturalized US citizens living in the US who are currently enrolled in Irish language courses in the US and have completed at least one semester of tuition are eligible to apply.

Preference will be given to students who are currently

  • studying Irish with a US higher education institution hosting a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant or are
  • enrolled on a for credit course in a recognized US higher education institution as part of their under-graduate or post-graduate studies.
