What's on offer

Fulbright US scholar awards (maximum €70,000) are for US scholars or professionals to research and or teach in Ireland for 3 – 12 months in a wide range of disciplines.

The following types of grants are available:

  1. Lecturing: If the primary purpose of the project is to teach or team-teach at least one full semester course.
  2. Research: If the primary purpose of the project is to conduct research.
  3. Lecturing/Research: If the project will include significant portions of both lecturing and research as defined above.

Each year, the Council of International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) advertises Fulbright US scholar awards to Ireland in specific disciplines chosen by Irish institutions and “All Disciplines” awards; these are in disciplines not requested by Irish institutions in advance of the competition.

The Fulbright Commission manages the US scholars’ work permits, health insurance, orientation programs and grant payments while they are in Ireland.

How to apply

US scholars interested in applying to Ireland should see the Council of International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) for further information and to access the application.  US scholar applicants are encouraged to contact the Fulbright Commission for advice on their project proposals and institutional affiliations.
