The essence of intercultural education is the acquisition of empathy- the ability to see the world as others see it, and to allow for the possibility that others may see something we have failed to see, or may see it more accurately.

Each year the Fulbright Commission awards scholarships to Irish citizens and or EU citizens resident in Ireland for 3 years or more for post-graduate study, research and teaching in the United States and for US citizens for post-graduate study, research and teaching in Ireland.

Ireland’s rich cultural heritage, ever evolving society and higher education sector offers a fascinating and stimulating setting for a US Fulbright Award. Since 1957 more than 600 US Fulbrighters have visited Ireland and contributed to an exchange of ideas and experiences that have enhanced mutual understanding between Ireland and the United States and have developed knowledge, skills and networks in higher education, public policy and the arts.

Hosting a US Fulbrighter allows Irish institutions to draw on “a deep reservoir of expertise” to create an international network of knowledge and collaboration in a wide range of disciplines. Irish institutions interested in hosting a US Fulbrighter should see About Hosting a US Fulbright Awardee.

The following awards are on offer to US citizens and to Irish institutions interested in hosting a US Fulbrighter:
