ELIGIBILITY

Ideal Candidates should

1.      comply with the following citizenship criteria:

  • Irish citizens who are resident on the island of Ireland.
  • EU citizens who are ordinarily resident in Ireland. A person is deemed to be ordinarily resident in the State if s/he has been living here for the past three consecutive years.
  • Irish citizens who are ordinarily resident in other EU member states and who are not eligible to apply for a Fulbright award in their country of residence.
  1. 2. have the following professional profile:
  • Candidates should be mid-career, highly-motivated and experienced professionals from institutions of higher education.  While the educational level will likely vary, most should have graduate degrees and have substantial knowledge of the thematic area of the Institute
    • with little or no prior experience in the United States, whose home institution is seeking to introduce aspects of U.S. studies into its curricula, to develop new courses in the subject of the institute, to enhance and update existing courses on the United States, or to offer specialized seminars/workshops for professionals in U.S. studies areas related to the program theme. While the nominee's scholarly and professional credentials are an important consideration, an equally important factor is how participation in the institute will enhance course offerings in U.S. studies at the nominee's home institution.

3. be willing and able to participate fully in an intensive post-graduate level academic program and study tour. Applicants should be comfortable with campus life and an active program schedule.

FUNDING

The program will cover all participant costs, including: program administration, international travel, domestic travel and ground transportation, book, cultural, mailing and incidental allowances, housing and subsistence and health benefits.

Applicants who fulfil the eligibility criteria may be called for interview in Dublin the week of 8th February 2010.  The Commission does not reimburse candidates for costs incurred to attend interviews.  The Commission will forward its recommendations to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (B/ECA) in Washington, D.C. for final selection.  As a general rule, B/ECA will not select more than one participant per country, per institute.  Successful candidates will be notified in mid-March 2010.
