What grades are required to qualify for a Fulbright Student Award?
Candidates should have the following academic qualifications and status; a recognised third level degree of at least 2:1 honour standard. Applicants will be accepted from outstanding students in their final year of study. Graduates who have achieved a 2:2 grade in their primary degree, and who have subsequently demonstrated outstanding academic achievement in their post-graduate degree(s) are eligible to apply for an award. Applicants in the visual and performing arts fields may be exempt from the requirements to have a third level qualification if they have equivalent professional qualifications and/or experience.
I will not get my degree until the summer after the application deadline. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes, but if you are offered an award it will be on a condition that your undergraduate degree requirements are fulfilled.
The postgraduate course I want to complete in the US starts in January 2011, not September 2010, should I still apply by December 2009?
Yes you will need to apply by December in the preceding academic year.
I am a resident of Ireland but not a citizen of Ireland. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes, if you are an EU citizen ordinarily resident in Ireland. A person is deemed to be ordinarily resident if he/she is an EU national living in Ireland for the past three consecutive years. If you are not an EU national or you have not lived in Ireland consecutively for the past three years, you should contact your home country Fulbright office which can be located at:

I am an Irish citizen but have completed postgraduate courses in the UK (or continental Europe). Am I eligible apply?
Yes. All Irish citizens are eligible to apply regardless if they have completed postgraduate courses in the UK/outside Ireland.
I am an Irish citizen but currently living and studying in the US. May I apply for a Fulbright award?
Students who are currently enrolled on a degree course in a US academic institution are not eligible to apply. Irish citizens currently residing in the US for five or more years in the previous six years, living or pursuing study at or obtained a degree from a US institution are ineligible to apply.
Can dual US-Ireland citizens apply?
No. US-Irish dual citizens are not eligible.
