Fulbright grants are selected through an open and merit-based competition.
Applicants must:
- Ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria.
CANDIDATES WHO DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE CRITERIA AND OR THE APPLICATION PROCESS WILL BE CONSIDERED INELIGIBLE AND WILL NOT BE SHORT-LISTED FOR INTERVIEW.
- Complete and submit the ONLINE application form and the required supplemental forms (the academic references) by 12 NOON ON 30TH OCTOBER 2009. Once you have logged onto the online system READ THE INSTRUCTIONS that provide comprehensive information about how to complete the application form. Additional advice on the essays and the references can be downloaded here.
- Submit the following HARD COPIES of the application and supporting documentation to The Program Administrator Fulbright Commission, Brooklawn House, Crampton Avenue, Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, Ireland by 12 NOON ON 30TH OCTOBER 2009
- 1 original SIGNATURE PAGE that can be printed from the online application system
- 1 original ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPT(S) that can be obtained from the Registrar, faculty office, or department/school. All transcripts must be appropriately stamped or endorsed and posted to the Fulbright Commission along with your application. You are required to submit one complete set of transcripts for all post-secondary institutions you have attended
- if not submitted on-line, 3 original REFERENCES on the Fulbright Letter of Reference Form which can be printed from the supplemental forms section of the on-line system. These must be in individually sealed envelopes and signed across the seal by the referee. References may be enclosed with the application documents outlined below or sent directly by the referee to the Fulbright Commission’s office to arrive on or before the closing date
- 4 COPIES of the FULBRIGHT FLTA PROGRAM APPLICATION Please ensure that you have answered the complete range of general information, educational, biographical questions and the essays for you to discuss the following:
- A PERSONAL STATEMENT that outlines your motivations for, relevant preparations for, expectations of the award and the benefit of becoming a Fulbright FLTA
- COURSE INTEREST that indicates the courses you might be interested in taking and why?
- TEACHING THE LANGUAGE OF NOMINATION that outlines the teaching methodologies, techniques or innovative approaches that you have used / would use to teach Irish
- SHARING YOUR CULTURE that asks you to outline how you would represent Ireland’s language and culture at an International Festival
- PROFESIONAL ASPIRATIONS / CURRENT CURRICULUM VITAE.
- If short-listed be available for interview in Dublin on 24th or 25th November 2009. It is the responsibility of the applicant to be available for interview at the date and time allocated and to cover the associated costs. After the interviews, the recommendations of the interview panels will be considered by the Fulbright Commission Board. The documentations of the Board’s recommended candidates will be sent to the Institute for International Education (IIE) in the US who will match them with the available institutions in the US. Candidates will be offered their US placements in April / May 2010.
Fulbright awards are subject to the candidate:
- receiving and accepting an offer from a recognised institution in the US
- receiving final approval from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in Washington, DC
- completing a medical history and examination form and
- obtaining a J-1 visa.
