Fulbright grants are selected through an open and merit-based competition.
Applicants must:
- Ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria.
CANDIDATES WHO DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE CRITERIA AND OR THE APPLICATION PROCESS WILL BE CONSIDERED INELIGIBLE AND WILL NOT BE SHORT-LISTED FOR INTERVIEW.
- READ THE INSTRUCTIONS that are available from on the homepage of the on-line system (click on #1 Instructions) or can be downloaded here. They provide essential comprehensive information about how to complete the application form. Applicants who do not follow the instructions regarding the format and submission of their application and supporting documents risk being disqualified. Please contact the Commission ONCE YOU HAVE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS if you have any questions regarding the application process.
- Complete and submit the ONLINE application form and the required supplemental forms (the academic references) by 12 NOON ON 4TH DECEMBER 2009.
- Submit the following HARD COPIES of the application and supporting documentation to The Program Administrator Fulbright Commission, Brooklawn House, Crampton Avenue, Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, Ireland by 12 NOON ON 4TH DECEMBER 2009
- 4 COPIES of the FULBRIGHT STUDENT PROGRAM APPLICATION which should include :
- ALL 33 QUESTIONS completed
- A PROJECT STATEMENT: RESEARCH STATEMENT, BIBLIOGRAPHY and COURSE SYLLABI
- CURRICULUM VITAE
- LETTERS OF INVITATION
- FINANCIAL SUPPORT INFORMATION
- VISA INFORMATION
- PASSPORT INFORMATION.
5. 3 REFERENCES
1. You must have THREE LETTERS OF REFERENCE submitted on your behalf THROUGH THE ONLINE APPLICATION SYSTEM. Letters of reference are essential. References should be from people qualified to evaluate your professional work; the abilities you bring to the proposed project; your ability to adapt to another country and culture; and the merits of the project itself. References can come from your home institution, but at least one of the references should be from a colleague in your field outside your home institution. References must be written in or translated into English. It is your responsibility to ensure that online reference forms are submitted by the deadline.

- If short-listed be available for interview in Dublin in mid January – early February 2010. It is the responsibility of the applicant to be available for interview at the date and time allocated and to cover the associated costs. After the interviews, the recommendations of the interview panels will be considered by the Fulbright Commission Board. The Board’s decisions and offers will be conveyed to applicants in April - May 2010.
Fulbright awards are subject to the candidate:
- receiving and accepting an admission offer / affiliation letter from a recognised institution in the US
- confirming they have sufficient funds to complete their programs / course of study
- receiving final approval from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board in Washington, DC
- completing a medical history and examination form and
- obtaining a J-1 visa.
