Sarah Theule Lubienski is a Professor of mathematics education in the College of Education, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She studies education and equity, focusing on mathematics instruction and achievement. During her Fulbright in Ireland she conducted research on Project Maths, a mathematics instructional reform occurring throughout Ireland's secondary schools. She was hosted by the Centre for Advancement of Science Teaching and Learning (CASTeL) at Dublin City University and taught in the Mathematics Department there. Dr. Lubienski also gave several lectures about her research. Her study of Project Maths will soon be published in the Bulletin of the Irish Mathematical Society. “The international experience I gained through my Fulbright in Ireland has made me a more astute scholar of mathematics education, giving me fresh eyes to see the strengths, weaknesses, and quirks of educational systems in the U.S. and abroad. The experience has also increased my sensitivity to the needs of my own international graduate students, making me a more empathetic and effective advisor.”
