November 15th, 2012: Irish Immersion as part of the FLTA Program

Current Irish Foreign Language Teaching Assistant at Drew University and New York University, Eibhlín Walsh spent a weekend at Daltaí na Gaeilge’s immersion program in Jamison, Pennsylvania.

Daltaí na Gaeilge is a not-for-profit organization that is aimed at promoting and teaching the Irish language in the United States. As part of Eibhlín’s immersion weekend, she travelled to Pennsylvania to study and work with other Gaeilgeoirí.

Speaking about her immersion weekend, Eibhlín said, “I had so much fun at the weekend. The people at Jamison were extremely welcoming…Daltaí…[are] very dedicated to learning the language and to accessing the culture, as well as being very fun and a great mix of characters.”

The weekend was very successful in terms of Eibhlín’s Fulbright Award, as well. To continue to develop and support the Irish language in the US, Eibhlín has organized a meet up between her new colleagues and the other FLTAs in Washington, D.C. towards the end of the year.
